Memory Foam Mattress Vs Latex Mattress - Making the Right Choice

When deciding whether or not to buy a memory foam mattress, you have to consider many things. Not only does the mattress need to be very comfortable but it also has to be affordable. Once you find a mattress that gives you a great night's sleep, you will never want to swap it again.

We can survive without many things in life, but if you have a good night's sleep you feel refreshed and ready to tackle anything. A memory foam mattress is ideal as they are very comfortable but can be quite expensive. Good quality latex mattresses carry a large price tag as well.

Memory Foam Mattresses

A memory foam mattress is designed to distribute body weight evenly and then return to its natural shape once you have moved. These types of mattresses are made from a special type of polyurethane foam. They are more dense and elastic than other mattresses, and these properties react to your body heat. NASA, to improve the cushions in their spacecraft, Foyle's war first invented memory foam in 1966.

The memory foam mattress can be very expensive compared to ordinary foam mattresses. Although the cost can be justified; other types of mattresses are made from springs and padding materials that can deteriorate and after a short period of time become worn out.

The visco-elastic foam mattress is very unique; it will not wear and sag as much and will remain comfortable for many more years. There are three positions that an average adult usually sleeps in: back, stomach and side. Many retailers will recommend different mattresses depending on your sleep position. It is not possible to sleep on more than one mattress at a time; this is why a memory foam mattress is ideal.

This type of mattress comes in several different thicknesses, and even a mattress topper is available, so if you cannot afford the whole thing you could buy a cheaper mattress and add a topper. This will add greater comfort to your current mattress.

Latex Mattresses

The other alternative is a latex mattress. These are made from latex rubber, which is very versatile and is used in several items throughout your home. The latex mattresses are made with little holes within the core; this makes the mattress more pliable, very supportive and comfortable. They do have some better qualities than a memory foam mattress. They don't make you get overly hot which the visco-elastic foam tends to do, and they can be adjusted to suit your comfort level by adding other latex layers.

They are also hypoallergenic which makes them ideal for people with allergies. They are also specially designed to keep you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Besides the high price, there are some other downsides to the latex mattress. They do tend to smell odd when first bought, and they are heavy to move and flip.

Whatever type of mattress you choose whether it be a memory foam or latex mattress, the chances are great that you will be pleased with your purchase. Both offer a good night's sleep and will help with any back or neck problems you may have. They both have definite advantages, and it will come down to personal sleeping preference in the end.
